You&#8217;ll need to brush you teeth after every meal and floss once a day, preferably in the evening. Good oral hygiene helps the teeth move better during the treatment, making the process more efficient. It also helps avoid cavities, gum problems and tooth decalcification.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Nutrition<\/strong>: Nutrition remains generally the same during an orthodontic treatment. Hard food must be chopped into small pieces and sticky food must be avoided. Chewing gum is out of the question. A detailed handout will be given to you the day your braces or appliance are installed. If anything is unclear, don&#8217;t hesitate to ask questions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Adapting<\/strong>: After the\u00a0dental appliances are installed, swallowing, talking, eating, appearance and brushing will all feel weird. Don&#8217;t worry. It&#8217;s all normal and will take about a week for you to adapt to the changes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Emergencies<\/strong>: If any of the following events occur, contact us as soon as possible: a metal wire sticking out and poking your cheek, a broken or lost appliance, a loose brace or a broken wire.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Appointment frequency: <\/strong>Depending on the treatment, appointments are every four to six weeks. The first two appointments usually take  due to filling out records and installing the braces or appliances.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Regular appointments with the dentist<\/strong>: It&#8217;s important that patients see their dentist, at a minimum, every six months during the orthodontic treatment.
